Ghetto Brothers
Founded by three brothers – Benjy, Robert, and Victor Melendez — the Ghetto Brothers was a unique organization, emerging in South Bronx in the mid-1960s. Part activist collective, part rock band, part youth gang, they helped organize free breakfast programs and clothing drives, spoke out about issues like police brutality, and hosted block parties, uniting folks from various communities, and even rival gangs to enjoy live music together.
