You Can't Fight It (From the film Assault On Precinct 13)
“You Can’t Fight It” was written for John Carpenter’s seminal “Assault On Precinct 13”, but only made it onto the Italian release of the film, “Distretto 13”, and was previously available only as a very limited 7” promo!
Trinidadian Jimmy Chambers rose to fame in the early 90s in Londonbeat, achieving number 1 success in the U.S. Billboard 100 and Hot Dance Club back in 1991 with “I’ve Thinking About You”. 15 years prior however he was commissioned to perform “You Can’t Fight It”, masterminded by British 60’s legend Kenny Lynch.
The original sees Carpenter’s minimalist industrial machine jam, transformed into funky dystopian soul with the addition of Jimmy’s vocal melodies riding harmoniously atop the ringing chorus of haunting backing vocals. The loose drum programming and howling brass adds perfectly to the atmosphere creating this groove ridden alternative to Carpenter’s masterpiece.
FBNM favourite Riccio has also provided us with a superbly authentic re-edit, only adding a little quantisation, fattening, stretch and sparkle to accompany the original faithfully and help translate this lost gem onto today’s dance floors!
This officially licensed premium 10” reissue features the original version carefully restored and remastered by Andreas “Lupo” Lubich (CALYX Berlin), in a vinyl only package featuring promotional art from the film, a digital download code and lyrics insert!
